Dev Update 1: version release and more


Version 0.0.5:

Today marks the release of version 0.0.5. The update contains the following.:

  • This update and subsequent updates will have a focus on Console controller support going further. This means that there is no longer any keyboard and mouse support. I understand that this is a taboo considering the platform these updates are being released on. Although I do believe subsequent updates will shed a light as to why.
  • Character movement with active party member switching, along with a new test arena to mess around with

  • New main & pause menu

Since the project is reset a lot of the systems that were implemented in the previous version of the game is gone. Now replaced with new systems and levels. Some of the systems were discussed in the previous devlog; however, this in the version that now exists the player can move around a set of 3 characters, switch to the one you want to actively use, and when going into different parts of the map will cause the positioning of the camera change dynamically. There are other systems that are technically integrated into this update but are not currently active.

Some of the non-active systems in this update is the level loading manager, and the quest system. As of right now, the current level layout the you can interact with is simple, and I'd actually like to implement a proper level before I start to make use of this system. As for the quest system, it technically works; however, some components that would make it shine is not implemented and the manager of this system still needs testing to ensure that it works as intended.


So what's next:

As of right now work on version 0.0.6 is under way and with it will bring some fixes to issues already found in 0.0.5 some of which are already fixed. So what of the new features? In terms of features there are two that I can share. the first of which is the target reticle system which is used for locking on to enemies as well as other actions. Another isn’t really a feature but an enabler of future systems and that is a mannequin which will be used when implementing the combat system. Below are some images of these systems in progress.
